The Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research has established partnerships with other state and federal agencies to conduct research on varied topics.

Marine Science and Educational Partners
Carteret County is the center of Marine research for North Carolina.
Nine research and educational institutions comprise the newly formed Marine Science and Education Partnership.

These partners contribute $127,000,000 and 3,162 jobs to the local economy
and have a wide variety of expertise. Their main purpose in Carteret County
is to:
- coordinate the efforts of individuals and institutions involved in marine science and education
- cooperate in the development and use of facilities to promote marine science and education
- use science, technology and education to enhance the climate for marine related-businesses and industry
- promote public education regarding, and involvement in, issues of environment and development in coastal and marine areas.
- assist citizens and public and private sector institutions in efficient, effective planning and management of the natural resources of coastal and marine environments.
- educate the business community on economic and social impacts of the marine science and education community in Carteret County.
- promote the education of local, state and national governmental officials regarding the joint accomplishments of the marine science and education efforts
- promote the value of marine science and education its citizens
