Research
The Center focuses its research on injured habitats and communities, estimating natural and human-induced mortality, growth, and reproduction of our living marine resources.
CCFHR research includes
- habitat modification,
- damage or destruction
- man induced and natural mortality
- mitigation of habitat loss
- restoration of habitat quality
- population dynamics
- commercial fisheries
- recreationally important fish species,
- protection of endangered and threatened marine animals
- marine mammals
- sea turtles.
This research is conducted at sites in coastal ecosystems throughout the United States. CCFHR’s scientific expertise has been called on internationally to apply knowledge and techniques gained at home to the impact of stressors on other ecosystems. This approach tests the robustness of our scientific understanding and research tools and gains credibility for them at NOAA managed protected areas.
CCFHR provides information for decision making to managers of culturally and economically important natural resources. This information is disseminated in the form of reports and publications, and used to develop forecasts of the consequences of habitat loss, restoration, and modification.
